LIVERMORE VALLEY ESTATE, CALIFORNIA, USA

Since 1883, five generations of the Wente family have crafted fine wines that showcase the best of their vineyards and winemaking expertise. The Wente family has been cultivating exceptional Merlot and Bordeaux varieties in the Livermore Valley since its founding. The Sandstone Merlot is sourced from hillside vineyards in California’s Central Coast, where the distinctive sandstone soils contribute to its character. These vineyards benefit from warm days, well-drained soils, and cooling breezes from the Pacific Ocean.

FERMENTATION: Each variety was fermented separately in upright stainless steel fermenters and pumped over 2-3 times daily. The wine was pressed after 7-12 days on the skins

AGING: Aged for 12 months in French and American oak barrels.

ON THE PALATE: The 2021 Sandstone Merlot is supple and beautifully balanced, featuring aromas of ripe red cherry and plum complemented by creamy oak notes of sweet caramel and vanilla bean. Additional hints of white pepper, cardamom, and graphite add complexity, evolving further as the wine breathes in the glass.

FOOD PAIRING: Classic slow cooked pot roast, winter stews, honey glazed short ribs, stuffed mushrooms, and warm brie on toasted crostini.

BLEND: 86% Merlot, 6% Petit Sirah, 3% Malbec, 2% Petite Verdot, 1.5% Mourvedre, and 1.5% Syrah.
