Description
CENTRAL COAST, CALIFORNIA
Wente Vineyards’ Morning Fog Chardonnay pays homage to the morning coastal fog on the California coast and is a testament to the Wente family’s pioneering role in California’s Chardonnay production. The daily morning fog moderates the climate, producing an excellent, beautifully balanced Chardonnay. Wente Vineyards was the first to produce a varietally labeled Chardonnay from their Wente clone, and today, many of the great Chardonnay vineyards in California are planted with the Wente clone.
WINEMAKING:
The wine was fermented in a combination of stainless steel tanks and American oak barrels. Stainless steel tank fermentation retains fresh fruit and aromatics, while barrel fermentation adds mouthfeel and complexity. This Chardonnay was aged for five months in a combination of barrels and stainless steel tanks. Stainless steel aging helps retain bright fruit and acidity, while the barrel-fermented portion was aged sur lie, with lees stirred monthly to build mouthfeel.
TASTING NOTES:
The Morning Fog Chardonnay displays subtle oak notes of sweet cream and vanilla that merge seamlessly with crisp D’Anjou pears, supported by an underlying tone of fresh-cut pineapple and lemon curd. The mouthfeel shows the weight and depth that classic Chardonnay leans on, with a supporting acid structure that reflects rounded richness while maintaining its vital and fresh fruity crispness.
FOOD PAIRING:
This wine pairs beautifully with a charcuterie board, Havarti cheese, olives, and mixed nuts. Its versatility and balance make it a perfect fit for a wide array of foods, such as delicate poached white fish, roasted lemon chicken, and Chicken Marsala.
